In Active Directory Users & Computers, on the E-mail Address tab, there is a check box that reads: Automatically update email addresses based on Recipient Policy.

These two ldap attributes are affected by the enable/disable of the ‘Automatic’ setting on this tab:

– msExchPoliciesExcluded
– msExchPoliciesIncluded

By default, UnitySync does not set either of these attributes. Generally, your Ex20xx policies are set to enable/disable this option whenever a new object is created (including those objects created by UnitySync). If the policy doesn’t automatically set a value, they will both remain NULL.

(Note: When an ‘Email Address Policy’ is updated and applied, the action will interpret an incorrect value as ‘enabled’. The setting on the contact will be changed (checked) and the policy will be applied.)

To avoid ever having the policies modify synced contacts, you can map the msExchPoliciesExcluded attribute in your custom object map file.

On the Custom tab of your connection, check the custom object map file (if you have one). If there is a mapping for either of the above attributes confirm they are not mis configured.

These articles show the correct syntax:

How do I disable the Recipient Address Policy for synced objects?

How do I enable the Recipient Address Policy for synced objects?

Note: The above solution is valid for UnitySync v2.x and later.
