*HIdden because MS article cannot be located and seems to apply to Exchange 2000, very out of date
If your destination directory is Ex2000, check the sync container on the destination directory via Users & Computers. Verify the format of the Name column - unless custom DN mapping is used, the objects UnitySync creates should show an Email address.
A classic symptom of a known ADC bug is that your ‘Name’ column may contain values in the format of an email addresses for some objects, but many other objects will show a ‘Name’ value in the format of a Display Name. Often, the Display Name will have a number appended, -1 -2 etc.
In a nut shell, after UnitySync creates the object using the email address ‘Name’, the ADC comes along and renames the object using the Display Name format. So, next time UnitySync has occasion to modify the object it doesnt find the object it created and will therefor re-create it, hence the duplicate entries. The underlying problem causing this scenario is the ADC bug.
Please refer to [[ms:269843|this Microsoft article]] which explains the ADC bug and the necessary workaround (269843).
Once you apply the workaround, the ADC will stop renaming synced contacts, so future syncs will not create duplicates.
Note: The renamed objects will have to be manually deleted, a UnitySync Unsync will not clean out the records properly since they were renamed. Then, you must run the Recovery Procedure to ensure all objects are readded as necessary.
