With just 2 or 3 directories you can run a normal 2-way sync between pairs. When you get more directories involved you may want to use one of the directories as a "Master", or add a completely new directory to use just for directory sync. In this situation we would refer to the other directories as "local" directories, or "spokes".
A separate master is easier to work with since the only information in the master is from the local directories. Information from each local directory would go in a separate container in the master - and when information is moved from the master back to each local directory the exclude file will exclude what came from that local directory - thus preventing a "directory loop".
